It's a tale as old as time: a young monk and his pals need to crash at an old lady's farm. Later that night the old lady tries to seduce the young monk but he turns her away, she then puts a spell on him and rides him around the night sky until he wakes up and realizes she's a witch then beats her to till she's within an inch of her life. She also has transformed into a beautiful young woman at this point so he feels REALLY bad. A series of mishaps, pratfalls, and botched prayer rituals ensues. This has been on my watch list for over a year and that time elevated my excitement for it.

Les Shinigami sont chargés de guider les bonnes âmes vers le Paradis ou plutôt la « Soul Society » et d'épurer les mauvaises âmes (les « Hollows »). Au même moment, la maison d'Ichigo se fait attaquer par un monstre, un de ces mauvais esprits. Le Shinigami, qui s'appelle Rukia Kuchiki, va tenter de l'anéantir, en vain. Elle explique à notre héros que le Hollow en a après lui car il possède une grande force spirituelle et que, s'il veut se défendre et protéger sa famille, la seule option est qu'elle lui transmette une partie de ses pouvoirs afin qu'il devienne lui-même un Shinigami. À la grande stupéfaction de Rukia, Ichigo hérite non pas de la moitié de ses pouvoirs, mais de tous. Ichigo, devenu Shinigami à son tour, est donc prêt à faire la chasse aux Hollows! Et bien évidemment, pour ceux qui n'ont pas continué les scans après la fin de l'anime, un résumé du dernier arc: Même l'affiche est prête! Un groupe de Quincy ayant survécu aux shinigami il y a 200 ans sort de l'ombre pour déclarer la guerre aux shinigamis.
